Personnel file

• Megan Raphael, president of Courage Project, recently was a featured speaker at the 2007 Athena International Conference in Chicago and at Michigan State University's 2007 Kaleidoscope event. Her talks were based on her book, "The Courage Code.” Raphael also will be a main speaker at the third annual Women's International Peace Conference in Dallas this summer.

• Joshua Merchant has joined Interlochen Center for the Arts as assistant vice president in the office of advancement.

Merchant comes to Interlochen from Central Michigan University where he was senior director of development for the College of Business Administration.

He will focus his efforts on major gifts and corporate and foundation relations in the central states and West Coast regions.

• WdWebb and MorePhotos in Traverse City have announced new staff for their hosting and software development company.

Zachary Wessels joins his father, Michael Connors, as part of the Sales and Marketing team.

Steven Berst of Torch Lake joins WdWeb as lead program developer for their software development team.

Joseph Derrigan has joined the Program Development team of WdWeb. He brings over seven years experience with Internet and web technologies to his new position.

Event

• The Elk Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its eighth annual Golf Outing at 1 p.m. June 16 at A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort, 627 W. Torch Lake Drive in Kewadin. Recognition

• The third annual Manistee County Athena Award was presented to Beth McCarthy during an award luncheon May 9 at the Manistee Golf and Country Club.

The former superintendent of Onekama Consolidated Schools, McCarthy owns MacBeth & Co., in Onekama and actively serves on numerous community boards.

Finalists for the awards were Carol Atkins, Cyndy Fuller, Sarah Helge, Sally Koon and Karen Moore.

• Boyne Falls native David M. Lick has been selected for inclusion in the 2007 edition of Woodward & White's Best Lawyers in America for his practice in the area of construction law.

Lick, a shareholder resident in the law firm of Foster, Swift, Collins & Smith in Lansing, has had a distinguished career in construction law.

• Keith Bell of Healthcare Underwriters, Inc., has attained lifetime membership at the Leading Producers Round Table of the National Association of Health Underwriters.

Bell achieved 10 consecutive years of leading producer production levels. The award is based on sales volume, service and business retention.

• Harbor Industries, Inc., with offices in Grand Haven and Charlevoix, has been honored as a recipient of the Michigan Business and Professional Association's West Michigan's 100 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For 2006 Award. This is the third consecutive year Harbor Industries received the award.

Milestone

• Jerry Stricker, senior project manager for Burkholder Construction in Traverse City, celebrated his 40th anniversary with the company.

Stricker began his career at Burkholder in 1967 as a laborer to help pay for his wedding. His expertise has expanded into complex residential and commercial construction.

Expansion

• Northpointe Food Ventures has leased space at 221 Bridge St. in Charlevoix for a Zaccaro's Market set to open in June. The market will be offering signature items that will be showcased in its future Traverse City store, such as breads, prepared food items and other private label foods.

New business

• Corey Hincks of Traverse City has opened Precision Wood Floors specializing in the installation of custom wood floors. Hincks can be reached at 922-0802.
