06/27/2007Windy City blows out the Beach BumsThunderbolts roll to 17-1 victory
Windy City shortstop Wes Long crosses home plate behind Traverse City Beach Bums catcher Matt Rademacher. TRAVERSE CITY That was a dud of a debut. The Windy City Thunderbolts scored four runs in the first inning to spoil the debut of Traverse City Beach Bums starting pitcher Tim Dugan en route to a 17-1 romp at Wuerfel Park on Tuesday. Dugan, picked up on Monday, allowed eight runs on eight hits in four innings. He also walked four and struck out two. Traverse City averted the shutout in the seventh inning. Curtis Ledbetter doubled off the wall in right field and came around to score on Lance Koenig's RBI single. But that was about all the Bums could muster off Windy City starter Shawn Phillips. Phillips allowed only five hits and the one run in seven innings of work to go along with 10 strikeouts. He retired 13 in a row at one point. The series continues tonight at Wuerfel Park in a 7:05 p.m. contest. Phil Tognetti (1-0, 1.65 ERA) makes a spot start for TC while Isaac Hess (7-0, 1.16) goes for Windy City.
