McClellan mows down the Rascals

TRAVERSE CITY — There's something about Wuerfel Park that brings out a lot in Traverse City Beach Bums' pitcher Robbie McClellan and a lot of zeros for the opposition.

McClellan allowed one unearned run in seven innings to improve to 3-0 on the mound — with each victory coming at home — as the Bums beat the River City Rascals 6-2 in a Frontier League baseball game Saturday night.

The lone run River City could muster off McClellan came in the seventh inning on a throwing error. McClellan allowed three hits — two of which came in the seventh — and struck out seven.

Traverse City scored all the runs it needed in the first inning off Rascals starter Damian Ursin (1-2).

After an out, Justin Holmes doubled down the right field line and Brad Vericker drove him in with a double of his own. With two outs, Jeff Vincent and Sam Orr walked and Lance Koenig followed with a two-run single to center to give the Beach Bums a 3-0 lead.

Traverse City made it 4-0 on a RBI single by Curtis Ledbetter in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Beach Bums added two in the eighth on a two-run double down the right field line by Matt Rademacher. The hit and RBIs by Rademacher were his first as a professional.

Every player who saw action for Traverse City reached base during the game and eight of nine had hits.
