06/03/2007Ten titles for TreeceGlen Lake senior runs down three victories at state
Glen Lake senior Marissa Treece won three Division 4 state track titles on Saturday, capturing the 800, 1600 and 3200. GRAND RAPIDS Marissa Treece finished her prep career with a perfect 10. The Glen Lake senior won three state titles setting a record in one in the Division 4 meet Saturday at Grand Rapids Forest Hills Eastern. The three titles gives the Notre Dame-bound Treece 10 for her career seven in track and three in cross country. "She's had a great career, Glen Lake coach Paul Christiansen said. "She's ready for the next level. "It was nice to see her end her (high school) career on such a positive note. Treece won the 800, 1600 and 3200. She set a new Division 4 record in the 1600 by running a 4:51.73. That broke the mark set a year ago when Alexa Glencer of Ann Arbor Greenhills edged Treece 4:55.57 to 4:55.94. Treece just missed setting records in the 800 and 3200, although official times were not available due to delays. Grand Rapids area schools hosted all four division finals. Athletes had to contend with hot and muggy conditions. Storms eventually moved into the area during the day, forcing several delays at the various venues. Only partial results were available from the four sites at press time. "It was tough day to do a triple, Christiansen said. "That's what makes Marissa's day even more amazing. If the weather had been better, she may have set records in all three races. Treece was on pace for the all-division 1600 record of 4:45.20, set in 1985 by Laura Matson of Bloomfield Hills Andover. She was at 2:22 at the half. "Then the heat got to her, Christiansen said. Frankfort's Britt Frantz made two trips to the victory stand. She won second in the 200(*) and teamed with Keeton Spencley, Abby Gilbert and Kelly Tousley to claim the 400 relays in a Division 4 record time of 51.06. Frankfort was second in the 800 relay (1:49.22.) Pellston's Audrey McMurry won the 100-meter hurdles (16.10). Bellaire's Molly Poel finished fourth in the shot put (35'7¼) and Manton's Ahley Potvin tied for sixth in the pole vault (9'3). St. Francis' Maggie Olsen was sixth in the 100 (13.3). Traverse City Christian's Kara Romstadt, Michelle Benson, Emily Ritsema and Amanda Send came in eighth in the 3200 relay (10:11.13). Clearing the Record
Due to incorrect information provided to the Record-Eagle, Britt Frantz was originally listed as winning the 200, however, she came in second.
