TRAVERSE CITY — David Nathanson probably wishes the schedule included a few more games against Evansville.

His Traverse City Beach Bums teammates wouldn't mind, either.

Nathanson, a right-handed rookie pitcher, allowed one run in seven innings to beat the Otters for the second time in five days, 3-1 on a hot Monday evening at Wuerfel Park. Nathanson (3-1) hurled a complete-game shutout to beat Evansville last Wednesday.

The Bums, who play the Otters only six times this summer, have won three of the four games played so far. The two teams meet again tonight and Wednesday at Wuerfel Park.

Monday's victory snapped a three-game losing streak by the Bums (26-37), who got off to a quick lead and never trailed.

With one out in the bottom of the first inning, Steve Young was hit by a pitch. After Zack Kalter popped out, Curtis Ledbetter drove in Young with a double. Moments later, Ledbetter was thrown out at the plate trying to score on Sam Orr's single.

TC added another run in the second on consecutive singles by Kyle Bradburry, Aaron Garza and Justin Holmes.

After Evansville plated a run on a fielder's choice in the fourth, the Bums tacked on an insurance run in the seventh. Brad Roblin reached base on a bunt single, stole second base and cruised home on Kalter's RBI single.

Ledbetter and Holmes had two hits each to lead the 10-hit attack.

Tyler Meigs earned a save, his second, by pitching two innings of scoreless relief for the Bums.

James Paduch (0-3) was charged with the loss for Evansville.

Prior to the game, the Beach Bums announced the retirement of pitcher Robbie McClellan, who has been suffering from arm problems. McClellan was 4-5 with a 4.07 ERA. He was replaced on the roster by ex-Detroit Tigers farmhand Tom Thornton, who was 2-4 with a 3.33 ERA with Class Oneonta last summer.
