07/20/2007Beach Bums win another walk-offHolmes drives in game-winner in 10th inning
Beach Bums starter David Nathanson stuck out five in seven innings of work. TRAVERSE CITY The Traverse City Beach Bums are walking tall. For the third consecutive night, the Bums won on a walk-off hit, this one supplied by the bat of shortstop Justin Holmes in the 10th inning to propel TC to a 5-4 win over Rockford. Brad Roblin walked to start the frame, advanced to second on a groundout by Brad Vericker and then to third after back-to-back walks to Jeff Brown and Matt Rademacher to set up Holmes' heroics. David Nathanson went seven strong innings, not giving up a run until the seventh, when the RiverHawks struck for all four of their runs. He struck out five. Jared Locke tossed two hitless innings in relief to send the game into extra frames, as TC knotted the game up in the eighth Brown double that plated Vericker. Bryan Rembisz has been the benefactor of two of the walk-off wins, earning his second win of the season by throwing a perfect 10th inning. He was also the winner in Tuesday night's 7-6 win over Washington. The Bums (22-31) scored a run in the fourth on a Vericker RBI single that brought in Sam Orr, and added two in the sixth on a Brown RBI single and a wild pitch that enabled Vericker to come across. Vericker (three) and Brown (two) accounted for half of the Bums' 10 hits. Brown entered the game hitting .343 in the last 10 contests. Jason James and Will Henderson had two hits each for Rockford (25-27). Two of the Rockford's coaches were ejected prior to the bottom of the ninth inning, apparently because they felt their pitcher had been shorted warm-up tosses.
