TC to host All-Star game

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Beach Bums will host the 2008 Frontier League all-Star game.

All-Star festivities will take place on July 15-16 at Wuerfel Park. The 15th will feature a home run derby and skills competition while the game will be on the 16th. The host team is guaranteed at least four All-Stars. The Beach Bums had two representatives in the 2007 contest.

"The entire league is excited about coming to Traverse City,” league commissioner Bill Lee said. "It is such a beautiful area of the country and Wuerfel Park is as beautiful a ballpark as you will find. We are confident that the Beach Bums will do a tremendous job in hosting the game and making sure that everyone has a great time.”

This week's All-Star Game in Florence, Ky., drew a record crowd of 4,483.

"We are thrilled to have the privilege of hosting the contest,” Beach Bums CEO John Wuerfel said. "The event will be a great opportunity to showcase not only Traverse City, but also Northern Michigan, to the players and staff of the Frontier League. I look forward to putting on a first class event.”
