Bums activate Young

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Beach Bums activated second baseman Steve Young from the injured reserve list Saturday in one of several moves made prior to the start of a series with the Central Division rival Kalamazoo Kings.

An All-Star in 2006, Young separated his shoulder during spring training and began the season on injured reserve.

In addition to activating Young, the Beach Bums traded infielder/catcher Lance Koenig and outfielder JT Thomas to Chillicothe for Tyler Meigs, a 6-7 rookie right-handed pitcher. Meigs, pitching in relief, was 1-1 with a 1.42 ERA. Opponents hit just .162 against him. TC also received a conditional pick in the 2008 draft.

The Beach Bums also signed rookie outfielder Aaron Garza out of Texas State University.
