Letters to the Editor

Time for a change

It is time for change on the Michigan Supreme Court. Up to now, most of the time "cronyism” has been the way that the Supreme Court justices have been chosen. It is time for Michigan to follow in the footsteps of Justice Weaver and be elected by the district that they serve from.

This group of Engler cronies has been totally against the citizens in some matters, as in the car insurance situation. When we pay good money and put our trust into an insurance company, we need to be compensated honorably when we are innocent victims in a crash/collision — most especially where there are injuries. And even more especially when a person is permanently injured or loses their livelihood as a consequence of the crash.

On the computer, go to Google then put in "Bad Faith Insurance Companies” and then scroll down and investigate each entry on that first page. You will be outraged!

We are being systematically ripped off and the "cronies” on our Michigan Supreme Court (not Justice Weaver) are supporting the efforts of the major insurance companies to cheat us and run away with the money.

Appalling letters

The letters by Mr. Kreh and Mr. Wischer demanding that religion cloaked as science be taught in Grand Traverse area schools were appalling. If Christian fundamentalists have their way, science standards will be lowered and children will be taught make-believe instead of logic and critical thinking.

When I was in grade school in Traverse City and Buckley, we learned about science through textbooks and experiments. If Kreh et al. have their way, teachers will be handing out Bibles and teaching the book of Genesis instead of explaining how evolution has helped shape our world.

Seems harmless and won't affect you, right? Will people feel the same when foreign countries, where evolutionary biology is stressed, obtain control of pharmaceutical production because there aren't enough qualified American scientists?
