TC's Corey Couturier scored the game-winning goal Saturday and assisted on the game-winner Friday as Ferris State swept Bowling Green in a CCHA series. TRAVERSE CITY Ferris State University sophomore right wing Corey Couturier was a big winner this weekend. The Traverse City product was involved in both game-winning goals as the Bulldogs ran their win streak to three with a weekend sweep of Central Collegiate Hockey Association foe Bowling Green. Couturier had the game-winning goal in Saturday's 5-2 victory, netting a power-play tally 3:43 into the final period. In Friday's 2-1 triumph, Couturier had one of the two assists on the game-winning goal by Cody Chupp. Couturier has seven points (two goals, five assists) for Ferris (19-19-3, 9-15-2 CCHA). The Bulldogs close out the regular season at CCHA champion and No. 1 ranked Notre Dame. Notre Dame captured its first-ever CCHA regular season title with a 1-0 shutout of Alaska-Fairbanks on Friday night. Notre Dame (26-5-3, 20-3-3 CCHA) skated to a 3-2 overtime victory on Saturday as sophomore Justin White (TC West) had a pair of assists, the second of which came on Garrett Regan's tally in the extra-session. White, who has eight assists this season, also had the helper on Regan's power-play goal that gave the Irish a 2-1 lead late in the second period. Brown University and junior guard Damon Huffman (Petoskey) had a successful Ivy League basketball weekend, beating Dartmouth 53-33 on Saturday and Harvard 70-66 on Friday. Huffman had 14 points in each game for the Bears (9-16, 4-6 Ivy League). He also had five rebounds against Dartmouth and six steals, four rebounds and two assists against the Tigers. Sophomore forward Scott Friske (Charlevoix) had two points on Saturday and six points and three rebounds on Friday. For the fifth time in five events this season, the Middlebury (Vt.) College ski team finished third in an event, this time at the Williams College Winter Carnival. The event combines results from alpine and nordic skiing. Middlebury sophomore Andrew Wagner (TC Christian) was second in the giant slalom. He did not finish in the slalom. Sophomore Cassidy Edwards (Glen Lake) was fifth in the 10K freestyle (34:54.7) and 17th in the classic sprint for the Middlebury women's nordic team. The Calvin College women's basketball team wrapped up a 16-0 regular season in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association with a 59-53 win over Alma College on Saturday. Junior guard Nikki Zimmerman (TC West) had nine points for the Knights (23-1). Freshman Megan Hoblet (Cadillac) had 10 points, 10 rebounds and one steal for Alma (10-13, 6-10 MIAA). Zimmerman had three points, three assists and two steals in a 66-62 triumph over Olivet on Wednesday. Freshman guard Robbie Harman (TC Central) led Central Michigan University in assists (six) and steals (three) in the Chippewas' 84-62 non-conference basketball loss against Illinois-Chicago on Saturday. Harman also had six points and three rebounds for CMU (10-15). In a 71-66 victory over Mid-American Conference foe Western Michigan on Wednesday, Harman had six rebounds, two points, two steals and one assist. Central is 5-7 in the MAC. Freshman forward Jill Walton (Kingsley) scored 15 points as the Lake Superior State University women's basketball team split a pair of games last week. Walton had five points, three assists and one rebound in a 76-66 loss to Ferris State on Saturday and 10 points, three rebounds and two steals in a 65-60 triumph over Saginaw Valley State on Wednesday. LSSU is 17-8 overall and 12-5 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Saginaw Valley State University sophomore Cullen Jamison (TC West) won the men's weight throw (60'1¾) at Friday's Jack Skoog Open at CMU. A pair of former area athletes posted top 10 finishes in the men's 3,000. CMU junior Andrew Manning (TC Central) was fourth in 8:47.37 while Lake Superior State University sophomore Ben Tarbutton (Gaylord St. Mary) was seventh in 8:51.1. Two area athletes also placed in the women's 800 as CMU senior Amanda Lyon (Mesick) was second in 2:18.59 while Aquinas senior Amy Drenth (Ellsworth) was 10th in 2:26.93. Northern Michigan University freshman Karin Diebold (Ellsworth) tied for second in the pole vault at 9'5¾. Saginaw Valley freshman Emily Nugent (Benzie Central) was 10th in the weight throw (41'3). When Aquinas stumbled, Cornerstone University was right there to capture the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference men's basketball title. Cornerstone won three games last week to finish 21-8 overall and 12-2 in the league. The Golden Eagles beat Davenport 76-63 on Saturday as senior forward Andy Bronkema (McBain) had 21 points, eight rebounds and four assists and freshman guard Corbin Donaldson (Petoskey) added five points. Andy Bronkema and Donaldson each had seven points while junior foward Luke Bronkema (McBain) added five points in a 97-51 victory over Concordia on Wednesday. Donaldson and Luke Bronkema had 12 points while Andy Bronkema added six assists and 10 rebounds in a 96-53 triumph over Michigan-Dearborn on Monday. Muskegon Community College couldn't recover from an 18-point halftime deficit in an 86-67 loss to Lansing Community College. Sophomore Brandon McClary (Bellaire) had a double-double for Muskegon with 24 points and 10 rebounds. University of Michigan freshman Alisha Cole (Cadillac) finished third in the 200 (25.45) as the No. 1-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team hosted its final meet of the indoor season, the Harold Silverston Invitational on Saturday . Red-shirt freshman Sarah Conkle (Bellaire) tied for fifth in the pole vault (11'5¾) for the Wolverines. Fifth-year senior Kelly Catino (TC Central) placed eighth with the same height. Hillsdale freshman Katie Christiansen (Glen Lake) was 10th in the long jump with a leap of 15'10½. The Kirtland Community College women's basketball team posted a 97-65 triumph over Alpena Community College Saturday. Freshman guard Trisha Peterson (Grayling) had 11 points, three rebounds and two assists for Kirtland (11-17). Gina Robinson (Vanderbilt) had 19 points for Alpena (2-23). Sophomore guard Mark Morse (Harbor Springs) scored 40 points in a pair of losses for the Lake Superior State men's basketball team. Morse had 23 points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists in a 68-62 setback to Ferris State on Saturday. He had 17 points, two rebounds and one steal for LSSU (8-18, 5-12 GLIAC) in a 63-60 loss to Saginaw Valley on Wednesday. Junior forward Erin Carney (TC St. Francis) pulled down seven rebounds as the DePaul women's basketball team cruised to an 85-60 victory over Seton Hall on Saturday. Carney also had four assists, two points and one steal for the Blue Demons (16-10, 6-7 Big East). The Hillsdale women's basketball team split a pair of games, losing 64-54 to Grand Valley State on Saturday and beating Northwood 79-59 on Wednesday. Senior Lauren Fewins (TC St. Francis) had seven points, five rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal on Saturday. She had 15 points, three rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block in the win by Hillsdale (16-8, 11-5 GLIAC). Davenport University won the WHAC women's basketball regular season title with a 12-2 record. Davenport beat Cornerstone University 81-79 on Saturday for its ninth straight win as sophomore Lynne Blomberg (Harbor Springs) had 20 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and one block. Blomberg had nine points, five rebounds and two assists as Davenport (24-6) topped Michigan-Dearborn 73-44 on Wednesday. The North Greenville (S.C.) men's basketball team bounced back from a 72-68 loss to Brevard on Tuesday to beat Warren Wilson on Thursday (92-40) and Mars Hill on Saturday (74-73). Freshman guard Austin Randel (McBain) had 18 points, five rebounds, five assists and one steal against Warren Wilson and 11 points, six boards, two assists and two steals against Brevard. He failed to score on Saturday and had one assist and one rebound for the Crusaders (14-12). The Hope College women's basketball team will be the second seed for the MIAA tournament after finishing 21-3 overall and 13-3 in the conference after a 79-71 victory over St. Mary's College on Saturday. Senior guard Sarah Jurik (Mesick) had 15 points and two steals and junior forward Lindsay Lange (Manistee) 10 points, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals for the Dutch. In Wednesday's 63-48 victory over Alma on Wednesday, Lange had nine points, four blocks, one rebound and one assist and Jurik six points, two rebounds, two assists, three steals and one block. Hoblet had 13 points and 12 rebounds for Alma. Madonna University (12-18, 8-6 WHAC) went 2-1 last week, including a 74-69 victory over Aquinas that helped knock the Saints out of first place in the WHAC. Senior guard Adam Kerfoot (Gaylord St. Mary) had 10 points in the win over Aquinas. He added 23 points, eight assists and three rebounds in an 89-71 triumph over Siena Heights on Wednesday and had seven points, four assists and 11 rebounds in an 84-70 loss to Concordia on Saturday. Junior Jeff Wierzbicki (Elk Rapids) had 16 points and nine rebounds and freshman Matt McDonald (Cadillac) three assists for Aquinas (19-11, 11-3) on Monday. Wierzbicki had 14 points, 13 rebounds and five assists in a 77-68 triumph over the Indiana Institute of Technology on Thursday. McDonald had eight points and three assists and Wiezbicki five points and five rebounds in a 65-57 loss to Siena Heights on Saturday. The Adrian College women's basketball team finished the regular season with a 79-53 loss to Albion on Saturday. Senior forward Ashley Hart (Onekama) had eight points and two steals for the Bulldogs (8-15, 3-13 MIAA).
