Vericker delivers for Bums

Double in the ninth decides it

TRAVERSE CITY — This time the ninth-inning run was the winner.

Brad Vericker doubled into right-center field, scoring Steve Young all the way from first base, to give the Traverse City Beach Bums a 5-4 victory over the Florence Freedom on Wednesday at Wuerfel Park.

The triumph by Traverse City (39-45) came a day after a 14-5 loss in 10 innings to the Freedom. In that contest, the Bums scored two in the ninth inning on a Jeff Brown home run, only to yield nine runs in the top of the 10th to lose.

Wednesday's victory marked the sixth time Traverse City has won at home this season in its final at bat.

Brett Bostelman (3-1) picked up the win for the Bums in relief.

The game was the final meeting of the season between Florence and Traverse City. The Beach Bums won two of the last three contests to take the season series.
