Kings pull out a 'wild' win vs. TC

Final run comes without a hit

KALAMAZOO — Tyler Meigs got out of one jam he didn't create, but couldn't get out of the other he did.

The Kalamazoo Kings scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to edge the Traverse City Beach Bums 3-2 on Sunday in the final meeting between the teams.

Meigs, who got the final out of the eighth inning with a runner on third base, walked Jeff Young to open the ninth. Young took second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jeff Grose and came in to score on another wild pitch by Meigs (1-2).

Traverse City (33-43) was limited to six hits by former Beach Bum Steve Shippey (4-5), who went the distance for the Kings (41-32).

Both of the Bums' runs came on solo home runs by Sam Orr in the fourth inning and Aaron Garza in the sixth. Orr was the only TC player with two hits.

Kalamazoo scored a run in the fourth inning on one of four wild pitches from TC starter Bryan Rembisz. The Kings plated a run in the sixth on a RBI fielder's choice by Keith Brachold.
