08/11/2007Big inning helps Kings crown BumsRamos drives in two runs in decisive thirdTRAVERSE CITY Joe Ramos delivered a two-run double in a five-run third inning to lead the Kalamazoo Kings to a 5-2 baseball victory over the Traverse City Beach Bums on Friday night at Wuerfel Park. Ramos had three hits in the game. The Kalamazoo third baseman also committed two errors. Kings designated hitter Josh Carter added three hits and an RBI. Starting pitcher Phil Tognetti (2-3) suffered the loss for the Beach Bums. He allowed seven hits and five runs in three innings. Jeff Williams, Matt Dillard and Brett Bostelman each pitched two innings of scoreless relief. The Bums (33-41) scored their two runs in the fourth inning when Justin Holmes doubled in Curtis Ledbetter, and Sam Orr scored on a passed ball. Ledbetter reached on a single to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. Teammates Holmes and Aaron Garza have also had 12-game hitting streaks this summer. Holmes and Zack Kalter had two hits each to pace the Traverse City offense. Trent Lare (4-1) was the winning pitcher for Kalamazoo. John Sullivan received credit for his 12th save. Friday's game was played in front of 5,693 fans. The two teams head down to Kalamazoo for games tonight and Sunday, their final meetings of the year. The Bums also have road series at Florence and Chillicothe before returning to Wuerfel Park for 12 of their final 14 games.
