Holmes delivers for Bums

Bums top Kings with a late run

TRAVERSE CITY — Justin Holmes came through just in time on Thursday night at Wuerfel Park.

His two-out triple in the bottom of the eighth inning scored Sam Orr and gave the streaking Traverse City Beach Bums a 4-3 victory over the Kalamazoo Kings.

Orr started the rally in the eighth with a one-out triple for Traverse City (33-40). After reliever Dan Caldwell came on to retire Aaron Garza on a pop up, Holmes drilled a triple down the right field line.

Tyler Meigs struck out two in a 1-2-3 ninth inning to earn his sixth save and give the Bums an 8-3 record over the last 11.

Traverse City led 2-0 after Aaron Garza's fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field. The Bums added a run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Matt Rademacher.

Kalamazoo (38-32) scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and eighth innings.

Traverse City had 11 hits in the game led by three from Holmes and Orr and two from Garza. Nick Pepper (2-0) picked up the win.
