08/07/2007Better late than neverBums win rain-delayed game 8-2TRAVERSE CITY Sunday night's Traverse City-Windy City game was well worth the wait for the Beach Bums, at least. After a rain delay of two hours, Traverse City cruised to an 8-2 win over the ThunderBolts. It was the Bums' first victory of the season over Windy City, which is in first place in the Frontier League's Central Division. Curtis Ledbetter paced TC (30-39) with two hits, including his sixth home run. He batted in three runs and scored twice. Brad Roblin also had a pair of hits, while Brad Vericker walked four times, once with the bases loaded. Phil Tognetti (2-2) earned the win, allowing two runs on three hits. He walked five and struck out three. The Bums bullpen hurled four innings of four-hit scoreless relief. Jared Locke struck out three batters in one inning of work, while Brett Bostelman fanned two in two innings and Nick Pepper struck out one in a perfect ninth. The Beach Bums bullpen has not allowed a run in the last 18.2 innings, a stretch dating to the seventh inning of August 1's loss to Evansville. TC's Aaron Garza singled in the eighth inning to extend his hitting streak to 12 games, tied for the longest hitting streak of the year for a TC player. Justin Holmes had a 12-game streak earlier in the season. The Bums return home on Thursday for a two-game series with Kalamazoo.
