TRAVERSE CITY — In one game the Traverse City Beach Bums erased the memories of a three-game series sweep at the hands of the Southern Illinois Miners.

Traverse City scored one more run that it did in all three games combined last week in a 7-3 triumph at Wuerfel Park on Thursday.

The Bums (28-38) scored five runs in the first three innings — all with two outs — against Southern Illinois. Matt Rademacher had a two-run single in the second to give TC a 2-1 lead and Aaron Garza made it 5-1 an inning later with a three-run homer down the left field line, his second in as many games and his fourth of the season.

Southern Illinois (33-33) cut the gap to 5-3 with a pair of runs in the fourth, but the Bums added single runs in the sixth and eighth innings, both involving Zack Kalter and Brad Vericker.

The first came in when Kalter intentionally got in a rundown between first and second to allow Vericker to score and the second was on a RBI double by Kalter, who had his eighth three-hit game of the season.

Vericker and Jeff Brown added two hits.

In his Bums' debut, Jeremy Dow won in relief of first-time starter Bryan Rembisz.

Jared Locke got the first two outs of the ninth before yielding a two-strike walk and a pair of two-strike singles. Tyler Meigs came in to strike out Willie Keene for his third save of the season.
