Central opens up BNC with a victory

Lyden Baesch had 8 points in TC Central's win over Cadillac.
TRAVERSE CITY Sophomore Dori Lansbach scored 23 points Thursday as Traverse City Central opened Big North Conference play with a 50-45 win over Cadillac.
The Trojans (2-1 overall) led by 12, 38-26, after three quarters.
Jessica Hoffman added 11 points and Lynden Baesch eight for Central. Kelsey Sovereign pulled down eight rebounds.
Lansbach has led the team in scoring in all three games this season.
Kelsey Duley netted a game-high 25 points for Cadillac.
Central won the JV game 45-44 in overtime. Laura Dwyer led the Trojans with 16 points.
Central hits the road to play at Flushing on Saturday.
TC West falls
to Grandville
Grandville outscored Traverse City West 20-8 in the fourth quarter to rally for a 58-47 win over the Titans.
West (0-3) led 39-38 at the end of the third.
Grandville shot 32 free throws in the game, compared to the Titans' five.
Pacing West were Jess Oakley with 14 points and Sierra Breithaupt with 11 points and 7 rebounds.
Grandville also won the JV game, 42-22.
The Titans travel to play Muskegon Mona Shores on Saturday.
Kingsley stocks up win column, TC Christian improves to 3-0
TRAVERSE CITY Courtney Stocking had 18 points and 8 rebounds as Kingsley topped Traverse City St. Francis 54-26.
Ashley Slade added 17 points and 6 assists for the Stags (3-1, 1-0 Northwest), who received 8 points off the bench from Amanda Ocobock.
Maggie Olsen's 8 points led the Gladiators (1-2).
TC Christian 47
Onekama 23
Traverse City Christian improved to 3-0 with a 47-23 win over Onekama.
The Sabres used a balanced attack to pull away from the Portagers. Emily Morgan had 9 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds; Kara Finney 8 points, 5 assists and 10 steals; Abby Streeter 9 points, 7 rebounds; Kelley Ritsema 9 points; Megan Ritsema 9 rebounds; and Anne Friedlander 6 rebounds.
The Sabres won the JV game 37-22 behind Jenna Finney's 17 points.

A 15-point effort from Ashley Captain paced Forest Area as the Warriors held Bellaire to just 7 field goals for their first win of the season, 40-30.
Ashley Pomorski had 9 and sophomore Jessica Green 7 for Forest Area (1-2).
Logan Edgecomb led Bellaire with 11 points.
Mesick 40
Buckley 38
Senior Kaylee Flaugher had 10 points and 13 rebounds to lead Mesick past Buckley 40-38 in non-conference basketball.
Sophomore Erica Hamilton added 8 points and 6 rebounds for the Bulldogs (3-1), while junior Samantha Hartsock came off the bench and contributed 7 points and 3 assists in the second half.
Norah Chalker's 14 points topped Buckley.

Three players scored in double figures to lead the Traverse City Home School Bulldogs to a 61-24 win over Northport.
Pacing the Bulldogs, who led 36-12 at halftime, were Katie Towersey (16 points, 6 steals), Susie Holbrook (13 points) and Ellisha Crosby (12 points, 13 rebounds, 9 assists).
Traverse City (2-0) travels to North Grand Rapids on Saturday.
Cecilia Kohler paced the Wildcats with 7 points.

Sarah Bauer and Sam Dunn scored 12 points apiece to spark Gaylord St. Mary past Pellston, 58-29.
Every player scored for the Snowbirds (2-1, 1-0 Ski Valley Conference).

Marion gave defending Class D champion Frankfort all it could handle, as the Panthers needed a 19-8 fourth-quarter run to defeat the Eagles, 52-41.
Marion led 23-20 at halftime. The score was tied 33-33 after three periods.
Leading Frankfort (3-0) were Brenna Banktson (24 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals), Nicole Marshall (13 points, 5 steals, 4 assists) and Kelly Tousley (5 steals, 4 assists).

Hannah Hewitt tossed in 19 points and Jessica Hass added 15 to lead Harbor Light Christian past Ellsworth 50-38 in Northern Lakes Conference action.
Courtney Howes had 12 points and 5 rebounds and Anna Eggebrecht contributed 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Lancers (2-2, 0-1 NLC).

Ashley Bauman, a 6-foot-2 sophomore, had 18 points, 14 rebounds, 4 blocks and 4 steals to lift Manistee Catholic Central past Bear Lake, 50-10.
Alyssa Kolanowski and Lisa Dust added 8 points each for the Sabers (2-1), who led 32-0 at halftime.

Amanda Blaskowski poured in 14 points as Cheboygan topped Charlevoix, 48-41.
The Chiefs shot 19-for-26 from the free throw line, compared to Charlevoix's 6-for-27.

Rose Savela tossed in 16 points as Manistee defeated Benzie Central 45-38.
Jolene Jeske netted 19 points for the Huskies. Elizabeth Merrill pulled down 9 rebounds and Maria Blazejewski 7 rebounds and 2 blocks.

Grayling posted its first victory of the season, beating Harrison 55-41.
Laura Boylan led the Vikings (1-2) with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks. Jessie Baker added 12 points and 7 rebounds.

Nikki McMichael's 14 points led Central Lake to a 55-51 Ski Valley basketball win over Johannesburg-Lewiston.
Nikki Ormsbee topped the Cardinals with 17 points.
