Townsend sparks Titans
TC West forward scores four goals in 5-1 victory

Casey Townsend netted four goals Tuesday to lead Traverse City West past Petoskey 5-1 in a Big North Conference soccer match.
Dan Kellogg assisted on three of Townsend's goals, while Evan Perry assisted on one.
Chris Goepfiech also scored for the Titans (3-1-2), assisted by Curt Olson.
West won the JV game, 2-1 with goals by Brady Fagen and Tyler Champt.
Elk Rapids 4
Harbor Springs 1
Elk Rapids erupted for four first-half goals to beat Harbor Springs 4-1.
Ian Sliger netted two goals for the Elks (4-1). Mike Greiner and Garrett Gribi added solo goals. Adam Benak drew two assists in the game while Gribi and Cory Messingschlager had one apiece.
Dan Werth was in goal for the Elks, who outshot the Rams 28-8.

Glen Lake 1
Ryan Blessing scored the game-winning goal with 2:13 left off a Basil Stowe corner kick as Northport topped Glen Lake 2-1.
Glen Lake led 1-0 on a goal by Andy Wichtoski, assisted by Aaron King.
Cody Brown scored an unassisted goal with 12:52 left to knot the score at 1-1.
The Wildcats (5-1, 3-0 Cherryland) played down a man most of the second half.

East Jordan 2
Ed Smith netted five goals as Kalkaska defeated East Jordan 7-2.
Kevin Whitehorn and Garrett Guy also scored for Kalkaska (1-0).
East Jordan's Jeff Keyser broke through the Blazer defense to set up Dusty Miller for the first goal just 20 seconds into the game. Keyser scored in the second half.

Forest Area and McBain Northern Michigan Christian played two overtime sessions, but finished in a 3-3 tie.
Tyler Lane, Greg Kenney and Brandon Rookus scored one goal apiece for Forest Area (1-3-1).

Brenna Banktson collected 22 points, 11 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists to lead Frankfort past Glen Lake 62-25 in a Northwest Conference opener.
Nicole Marshall added 16 points, 5 assists and 4 steals for the Lady Panthers (2-0, 1-0 Northwest conference) while Kelly Tousley chipped in with 5 steals.
Glen Lake was paced by Amanda Lautner with 6 points.

Kingsley rolled past Manton 66-24 in Northwest Conference play.
Kingsley led 20-0 after the first quarter and outscored Manton, 23-9 in the second.
Ashley Slade led the Lady Stags (2-1) with 19 points.
Brit Denter added 17 points, Courtney Stocking 9 and Tallie Waurzyniak 6.
Manton was led by Hannah Stewart with 8 points.

Maggie Walters scored 12 points as Suttons Bay opened Northwest Conference play with a 37-33 win over Mesick.
Tish Evans had 9 points and 3 assists for Mersick (2-1, 0-1).

Five players scored in double figures as Kalkaska began its Lake Michigan Conference schedule with a 70-22 victory over Grayling.
The Blazers led at the quarter breaks 20-6, 38-12 and 60-20.
Leading the way were Katie Krause (16 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals, 4 blocks), Kara Ponstein (16 points, 5 assists), Caitlin Flohe (13 points, 6 assists), Lindsay McLean (12 points) and Melissa Taylor (11 points, 5 assists).

Charlevoix opened up a 31-7 lead at half en route to a 54-30 non-conference win over Gaylord.
Lori Zimmerman scored 16 points to pace the Rayders (1-1). Tessa Welsh led Gaylord with 13.
TC Bulldogs 62

Ellisha Crosby did a little bit of everything to lead the Traverse City Home School Bulldogs to a 62-56 come-from-behind win over Forest Area.
The Bulldogs (1-0) trailed 29-23 at halftime before a 25-point outburst in the third quarter.
Crosby finished the game with 16 points, 8 rebounds, 6 steals and 3 blocks. Suzie Holbrook chipped in 12 points and 8 steals, Katie Towersey had 11 points and Ellen Musser 10 points.
Ashley Captain led the Warriors with 15 points. Jessica Green added 13 and Kayle Helseo 10.

Courtney Howes netted 17 points as Ellsworth defeated Central Lake 55-38 in a non-conference contest.
Nikki McMichael and Courtney Kean scored 9 points apiece for Central Lake (1-1).

Three players scored in double digits to lead Johannesburg-Lewiston in a 71-51 victory over Atlanta.
Ashlie House led Jo'burg with 19 points and 4 steals.
Bridgette Fisher added 18 points, 9 rebounds and 5 steals while Nikki Ormsbee collected 12 points, 9 rebounds and 6 steals.

Sophomore Ashley Bauman poured in 19 points to lead Manistee Catholic Central in a 52-33 win over Onekama.
Bauman also had 14 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 blocked shots in the contest.
Lisa Dust added 9 points and 5 steals for Manistee Catholic (1-1), and Elise Bauman chipped in with 8 points.
Gladiators win fifth LMC tournament
St. Francis won its fifth consecutive Lake Michigan Conference tournament, edging Charlevoix on a tie-breaker Tuesday at the Grandview Golf Course.
The Gladiators and Rayders finished with a 164. But St. Francis won the tiebreaker the fifth best score to stay unbeaten in league play.
The Gladiators' Tony Casciano earned medalist honors with a 36. He was followed by Tom Brick at 42 and Cam McCardel, Blane Casciano and Mike Dendrinos at 43.
Kris Bartling shot a 38 and Nic Williams a 39 for Charlevoix.
Elk Rapids, paced by Tylor Cody's 38, finished third with a 169. The Elks were followed by Harbor Springs at 174, Grayling at 176, Kalkaska at 178 and East Jordan at 203.

Jessie Rose carded a match-low 38 for Manistee Catholic Central in a 166-221 win over Frankfort.
Jack Wilband had Frankfort's low with a 39.
