TC West falls to 0-2 with 42-6 Grandville setback

GRANDVILLE — Traverse City West knew getting through this early season schedule was going to be quite a chore.

Grandville quarterback R.C. Thompson ran for three touchdowns and the Bulldogs stymied the TC West offense to hand the Titans a 42-6 loss.

"We just have to keep working to get better," TC West coach Matt Prisk said. "It's a tough schedule. We just have to keep working."

The Titans (0-2) might find an even tougher foe next week. TC West hosts Birmingham Brother Rice.

Grandville went up 6-0 late in the first quarter on a 2-yard run by Thompson. The kick failed with 3:10 remaining in the opening period.

The Bulldogs took a 28-0 halftime lead on a 54-yard pass from Sam Russell to Aaron Helmholdt. The TD came on a double pass after a TC West defender slipped down.

Al Williams ripped off a long 56-yard run to set up his own 3-yard run and Thompson added a 1-yard run with 1:23 left in the half.

Thompson's 1-yard touchdown run on the first play of the fourth quarter increased the advantage to 35-0.

TC West got on the board as backup quarterback J.T. Hogan hit Wes Sovis on a 9-yard TD pass.

Grandville added a late touchdown, breaking off a 60-yard run.

TC West had its struggles on offense against Grandville, coming off a stinging 42-13 loss to Lowell in the season opener. The Titans did have two touchdowns called back by penalty.
