Miller selected to Hall of Fame

TRAVERSE CITY Former Glen Lake basketball coach Don Miller will be inducted into the Michigan High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Sunday, Sept. 17.
The induction banquet will be held in the Terrace Room of the Student Services Building at Central Michigan University.
Miller coached 31 years at Glen Lake, compiling a 524-207 record. His teams won 12 Northwest Conference titles, 16 districts and nine regionals. The Lakers reached the Final Four six times in Miller's tenure. They won a Class D state title in 1977 and finished as runner-ups in 1996.
Miller was inducted into the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Hall of Fame in 1998. He was a finalist for national Coach of the Year in 2000.
Big I tourney June 21 at Pinecroft
TRAVERSE CITY The Grand Traverse County Trusted Choice Big I Junior Classic golf tournament will be held June 21 at Pinecroft Golf Club in Benzonia.
The tournament is open to boys and girls who have not turned 19 by Aug. 3.
Organizers hope to attract a record number of golfers to the local, state and national tournaments. A year ago, more than 500 golfers competed in 14 local qualifying sites across Michigan.
Qualifiers from the Pinecroft event will advance to the state finals July 17 at the Midland Country Club. The national finals are July.

Area athletes earn all-MIAA honors
TRAVERSE CITY Manistee's Lindsay Lange, who won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's 200-meter dash (25.41), earned first team all-league track honors.
Traverse City West's Mishelle Scott (Hope College) was also named on the first team.
Gaylord's Jason Bowman (Albion College) was a first-team pick in men's track.
In baseball, Petoskey's Nick McIntosh (Olivet College) was a second-team all-league selection. Manton's Allison Smart (Albion College) was second-team in softball.
Glen Lake's Betsy Netherton (Albion College) received a blanket as her senior award. Netherton, a first-team all-league choice, posted a 16-5 singles record and a 16-4 doubles record.
Big Mac Shoreline Bike Tour set
MACKINAW CITY The Mackinaw City Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 14th annual Big Mac Shoreline Spring Scenic Bike Tour June 10.
Cyclists can select from 25, 50, 75 or 100-mile tours along the shores of Lake Michigan. There will be rest areas and safety wagons along the course.
The tour begins and ends at Mackinaw City High School. Participants depart between 7-9:30 a.m. depending on the route taken. The registration fee is $18 ($23 after June 1).
Cyclists can complete the weekend on Sunday, June 11, with a tour across the Mackinac Bridge. That ride will begin at 6:30 a.m. The fee is $12 to the first 400 riders who participated in Saturday's tour. For more information call the chamber at 1-888-455-8100.
