Glass is female Athlete of the Year

DETROIT — The awards keep coming for Leland's Alisha Glass.

The Leland senior was honored as the Female Athlete of the Year by the Detroit Athletic Club in a ceremony Monday night.

Glass was one of six female high school athletes nominated for the award.

Glass, who will play volleyball at Penn State next season, said she was "surprised" to win the award.

"There were some great student-athletes (up for the honor)," Glass said. "I was just happy to be part of it. This was so shocking ... what a great night."

Glass was previously named Gatorade's volleyball Player of the Year in Michigan. She followed that up by earning the state's Miss Volleyball award.

Glass led Leland to the Class D state volleyball championship.

University of Detroit Jesuit soccer player John Schaefer was the Male Athlete of the Year.
