SUTTONS BAY — Zip, zero, zilch.

That's what each foe got against the host Norse in the Suttons Bay Invitational.

Suttons Bay won its own soccer tournament with a trio of shutouts, ending with a 4-0 blanking of Elk Rapids. The Norse (9-2-1) opened with a 3-0 victory over Ludington and also blanked Lansing Christian by a 2-0 score.

Kelsey Wick, in her first-ever start in goal, recorded all three of the victories. But it wasn't like she was particularly busy.

"She was fantastic and the defense was stellar," Suttons Bay coach Ryan DeFour said of his keeper.

"There were only a couple shots on goal in any of the games," Wick said. "The defense did a phenomenal job. They cleared everything way up the sides and when they tried to come into the middle, our defense just denied it and wouldn't let it happen."

DeFour said he was pleased with the way his team played as much as the outcomes.

"They did well," he said. "They played the game right."

"It was fun," Wick said. "It was a good time."

Offensively, Suttons Bay got its goals in bunches.

In its 4-0 victory over Elk Rapids, all of the scoring came in the second half.

Holly Orban had two of those tallies while Victoria Alfonseca and Alyssa Korson each had one goal. Korson had three assists in the victory.

Against Lansing Christian, Orban accounted for both goals and both came before the intermission.

All three of the goals against Ludington came in the first half. Chelsea Moyer, Jackie Bussey and Michelle Ness found the back of the net in the second game of the round-robin tournament.

"It's just the way they tend to do it," DeFour said of the scoring surges by Suttons Bay. "I don't know how."
