03/31/2006Arts Center sets scheduleLineup includes music, theaterNORTHPORT The Northport Community Arts Center opens its 2006 season with Two One-Act Plays from Old Town Playhouse on Sunday, April 9, at 3 p.m. "This Property is Condemned" by Tennessee Williams and Thornton Wilder's "The Happy Journey" will be featured. The schedule continues with a variety of music and theater through the year. Pianist Flavio Varani will perform on Saturday, May 6, at 8 p.m. May 20 brings the Cherry Capital Chorus, Grand Traverse Chorus of Sweet Adelines and Four Man Fishin' Tackle Choir. More than 100 singers will be on stage for performance that mixes barbershop harmony with humor. Jazz Singer Kathy Kosins will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 3, with Blackthorn offering the Music of Ireland June 17 and pianist David Syme scheduled for Saturday, June 24. The Beat Club, with a show reminiscent of the Beatles and mid-1966, will do one show July 1. Wes Harrison, "Mr. Sound Effects," and Jasen Magic, "Magician and Comedian" do a funny show built around sound effects from the Hollywood stage and movies magic from the radio and TV networks. They're on for July 8. The Northport Theatre Company present a musical comedy evolved from rumor, misinformation and gossip in Leelanau County July 22, 23, 29 and 30. It's back to music with the RFD Boys on Saturday, Aug. 5. Tickets can be purchased individually in advance or at the door. Prices are $15 for adults and $5 for students. Season tickets sell for $199.75 for adults and $51 for students and cover all 17 events, with a create-your-own option including eight events of the buyer's choice available for $104 for adults and $32 for students.
