Prep Volleyball Roundup

Area teams sweep regional opponents

BAY CITY - It took a pair of three-game sweeps to give Traverse City West its third straight volleyball regional title.
The Titans topped Lowell 25-7, 25-17, 25-23 in the final of the Class A regional at Bay City Central on Saturday. The win advances TC West (45-13) to Tuesday's quarterfinal at Midland Dow.
"It's pretty awesome," TC West coach Emily Lovejoy said of a regional championship in her first season as head coach. "The girls played real well.
"Everybody came out ready to play. We had a little motivational, team-building exercise on Friday night and it really pumped everyone up."
TC West dispatched Saginaw Heritage by a 25-12, 25-15, 25-12 score to reach the regional final.
Kalyn McPherson had 29 digs, 63 assists and 7 kills to lead the Titans.
Kelsey Sears finished with 31 kills and 20 digs and Jenna VanZee 17 kills and 24 digs. Other key contributors for the Titans were Jordan Davenport (9 kills, 12 digs), Marta Hunt (20 digs, 13 kills), Jena Shaw (27 digs) and Jessica Oakley (12 digs, 12 kills).

CLASS D
At Arenac Eastern
Leland goes 6-0 to win third straight regional
Leland didn't allow more than 18 points in any of its six games to win the Arenac Eastern regional with a 25-9, 25-18, 25-10 triumph over Marion.
The Comets (64-4) opened with a 25-13, 25-14, 25-12 triumph over AuGres to reach the final.
The regional title is the third straight for Leland and the seventh in the past nine seasons.
"I wouldn't say that we were on top of our game, which gives us room for improvement and things to work on at practice on Monday," Leland coach Laurie Glass said. "The stakes get tougher. You just put that behind and go after the next one."
Next up for Leland is Tuesday's quarterfinal at Beal City.
Alisha Glass led Leland with 39 kills, 11 digs and 4 blocks. Jennifer Hecht added 10 kills, 14 digs and 4 aces.
"She hit the ball well," Laurie Glass said. "Jennifer Hecht served well to keep her in the front row to get all those kills."
Daina Parent contributed 6 kills, 9 digs and 2 aces, Anna Lau 12 kills and 2 blocks and Erica Breen 7 kills and 1 block. Whitney Grant finished with 60 assists to go along with 3 aces.

At Hillman
Hass powers Harbor Light past Hillman
Once Harbor Light Christian got over its lull, Hillman never stood a chance.
Harbor Light Christian topped the host Tigers 25-11, 25-13, 25-10 to win its third straight regional title.
Harbor Light (46-8-2) advances to Tuesday's quarterfinal at Cheboygan.
The second game against Hillman was tied 12-12. Jessica Hass served the 13th point before Kaylee Hewitt reeled off 10 straight, including three aces.
"We kind of hit a lull there," Harbor Light coach Heidi Hewitt said. "We came out strong in the first game against them, hitting the ball hard.
"Then Kaylee served real well, they had a couple of mistakes and we took advantage of them."
Hass had 17 kills against Hillman and 32 for the tournament.
Harbor Light topped Cedarville 25-16, 25-13, 25-10 to reach the regional final.
