Rayders win 3 OT thriller

CHARLEVOIX - Matt Kautz turned into a double-time hero for Charlevoix after leading the Rayders to a 101-100 triple overtime win over Boyne City.
Kautz performed his first act of heroism on a buzzer-beating layup at the end of double overtime to send the game into a third OT session.
Kautz then drained a free throw with 10 seconds remaining in triple overtime to lift Charlevoix to the victory.
Kautz finished with 36 points, 7 rebounds, 7 steals and 4 assists for the Rayders (14-8).
"It was just a tremendous high school basketball game. This is a rare occurrence," said Charlevoix coach Keith Haske who coached a 103-99 Charlevoix win over Grayling two years ago.
Mitch Crandall added 26 points, 16 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists for Charlevoix while Tyler Haske finished with 14 points and 9 assists.
Dustin Dibble chipped in with 12 points for the Rayders.
Boyne City (8-13) was led by Taylor Voice with 33 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists.
Tyler Kruzel and Grant Ameel added 27 points each for the Ramblers.
"I can't point to any one mistake as to why we lost the game tonight," Boyne City coach John Hertel said. "I told the players that losing in triple overtime, that's nothing to hang your head about."
Charlevoix will play East Jordan in district finals on Friday.
East Jordan advanced with a 61-26 victory over Inland Lakes.
East Jordan (8-14) was led by Alex Lorne with 15 points and Tom Pentecost with 9.
Quinn Ridley paced Inland lakes with 8 points.
CLASS B
At Cheboygan
Grayling 60
Kalkaska 56
Bobby Starks netted two free throws to ice a 60-56 Grayling win over Kalkaska in district tournament action.
Kalkaska led, 32-29 at halftime, but was shutdown in the first six minutes of the third quarter with its only point on a free throw.
Grayling took a 43-37 lead at the end of the third quarter and never trailed again.
Eli VanNuck led Grayling (16-3) with 19 points while Jim Boylan scored a career high 18 points and had 12 rebounds in the contest.
Cory Heier netted 23 points including five triples to lead Kalkaska (11-10). Aaron Swoverland added 19 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists for the Blazers.
Grayling will play Petoskey in district finals on Friday at Cheboygan.
At Benzie Central
Reed City 63
Harrison 41
Reed City advanced to district finals with a 63-41 victory over Harrison.
Justin Ringer led Reed City (20-2) with 25 points while Harrison was paced by Tanner Haskin with 15 points.
Ludington 60
Mason Co. Central 45
Ludington will play Reed City in its district finals on Friday after topping Mason County Central, 60-45.
Ryan Lewendowski led Ludington (19-3) with 17 points while Nick Jamieson scored 18 points for Mason County Central (16-5).
CLASS C
At McBain
McBain 61
Pine River 56
McBain recovered from a 20-point deficit to edge Pine River, 61-56 in its district opener.
Pine River led, 22-4 at the end of the first quarter.
The lead was decreased to nine points at halftime and seven at the end of three quarters.
McBain rolled in the fourth quarter, 25-11 to seal the victory.
Austin Randel led McBain (20-2) with 25 points while Justin Sluiter and Steve Michalak scored 11 points each.
Cole VanBuren netted 18 points for Pine River while Lucas Bowan and Chris Weaver scored 13 points each.
McBain will play Manton in district finals on Friday at McBain.
Manton 56
Brethren 36
Jameson Phillips scored 21 points and Blake Allen netted 17 to lead Manton over Brethren, 56-36 in district play.
Brethren was paced by Alex Sexton with 10 points.
Manton improved to 20-2 and will play McBain in district finals on Friday.
CLASS D
At TC Christian
TC Christian 63
Leelanau School 51
Traverse City Christian advanced to its district finals with a 63-51 victory over Leelanau School.
Gannon O'Brien led Christian with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Matt Beemer added 12 points and five assists while Layton Boeve scored 11 points for the Sabres.
TC Christian led 52-27 after three quarters before Leelanau made a fourth-quarter surge.
George Wilkinson poured in 39 points to pace Leelanau School.
TC Christian will play Northport on Friday in the district finals.
Northport 53
LL St. Mary 47
Northport edged Lake Leelanau St. Mary, 53-47 in the first round of district play.
Cody Brown tallied 19 points and 8 rebounds while Drew Mitchell accumulated 15 points and 12 rebounds for Northport (13-8).
Cory Connolly chipped in with 8 assists and 5 points for the Wildcats.
St. Mary's pulled within a point with a 15-5 run in the third quarter before Northport pulled away.
St. Mary was paced by Adam Koniezka with 20.
Northport will take on TC Christian in district finals on Friday.
