City planners to look at site plan changes

TRAVERSE CITY - City planners will consider changes to a proposal by developer Michael Uzelac for a three-story building on the north side of West Front Street.
City planners will discuss amendments to the site plan for 124 West Front St., a building proposed by Uzelac-backers Federated Properties. The planning commission meets at 7 p.m. today.
Uzelac's original plan called for more than 100 parking spots, but he wants to trim to 69 private parking spots, said city planner Russ Soyring.
Soyring said the change was prompted by the city's decision to not pay for public parking at that site.
The city commission in February approved a bond issue of up to $16 million to pay for a 500-plus space public parking deck in an eight-story project proposed by Uzelac for the south side of West Front. City officials said they cannot afford to pay for parking on both the north and south sides of the street.
Uzelac also wants to expand the third floor of the north side building from 23,718 square feet to 33,748 square feet.
