Fundraiser to benefit the disabled

TRAVERSE CITY — The annual "Tag Day" fundraiser for the Traverse City Rotary Club's Committee for the Handicapped is set for June 24 at locations throughout the Grand Traverse Area.

The campaign raises up to $30,000 each year to help the club assist local children and adults with disabilities. Recent grants by the committee include $10,485 to the Cherry Knoll Children's Center to buy equipment for a "therapeutic sensory room" for students with severe disabilities to experience light, sound and other sensory stimuli.

Other grants include $2,500 paid to Child and Family Services of Northwest Michigan Inc. to install a handicapped-access bathroom for a child in foster care, $2,000 to send 10 participants to the local Special Olympics and $3,000 for a group of students to receive summer speech therapy.
