January 6, 2006East Bay treasurer faces court hearingTRAVERSE CITY - A hearing to determine whether East Bay Township Treasurer Debora Watson will stand trial for allegedly neglecting her duties in office is delayed for a month. On Thursday, 86th District Court Judge John Foresman granted a 30-day adjournment of a preliminary hearing for Watson, 45, charged with alleged "willful" neglect of duty. Watson was charged in November for allegedly failing to "take charge" of money belonging to East Bay in her role as treasurer after embezzlement charges were leveled against Clerk Janice Gee, 59, in June 2005. Gee faces 14 felony counts, including charges she embezzled money from township coffers. In December, Bartko pleaded guilty to one count of willful neglect of duty and agreed to pay upwards of $3,000 in restitution. Watson, who did not appear at the hearing, is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 10.
