February 24, 2006Prep Volleyball RoundupLeland sweeps three matches at Suttons BayLeland improved its volleyball record to 55-4 by sweeping Kingsley, Kalkaska and Suttons Bay on Thursday night.The Comets defeated Kingsley 25-21, 25-10, followed by wins of 25-17, 25-7 over Kalkaska and 25-8, 25-11 over the host Norse. Leland, which is hosting the Cherryland Conference tournament on Saturday, was led by Alisha Glass with 29 kills, 13 assists, 12 digs and 19 assists, and Jennifer Hecht, who had 19 kills, 13 digs and 7 aces. Also contributing were Daina Parent (8 kills, 7 digs, 3 aces), Whitney Grant (54 assists, 7 digs), Anna Lau (6 kills, 4 blocks), Erica Breen (8 kills) and McKenna Haverberg (6 aces, 2 digs). Suttons Bay beat Kalkaska 25-17, 25-16 and Kingsley 16-25, 25-20, 26-24 before falling to Leland. The 44-12-5 Norse were paced by Holly Orban (25 of 26 serving with 5 aces, 26 kills, 9 blocks, 20 digs), Kelsey Wick (20 of 21 serving with 3 aces, 17 kills, 3 blocks, 16 assists), Christa Nesky (28 of 28 serving with 5 aces, 4 digs), Anna Pryor (20 of 21 serving, 48 assists, 13 digs), Fran Belanger (10 of 11 serving, 6 kills, 15 digs), Charlotte Stowe (25 of 27 serving, 4 kills, 3 blocks, 27 digs) and Cecilia Aguayo (5 kills, 6 blocks, 5 digs). TC St. Francis 3 East Jordan 1 Kristina Droste had 10 kills, 10 digs and 3 aces to lead Traverse City St. Francis past East Jordan 25-16, 25-22, 20-25, 27-25 in Lake Michigan Conference volleyball. Also contributing for the Gladiators (18-18-9, 8-5 LMC) were Lauren Curry (31 assists, 16 digs) and Kelly Gavigan (4 kills, 10 digs, 3 blocks). St. Francis hosts Charlevoix next Thursday its final league match. Mancelona 3 Gaylord SM 0 Katie DeRuiter had 7 kills and 11 digs as Mancelona beat Gaylord St. Mary 25-14, 25-7, 25-6 in Ski Valley play. Theresa Petersen (8 digs), Stephanie Adams (13 of 13 serving with 7 aces, 4 digs) and Jaline Taylor (15 of 15 serving) also starred. TC West 3 Petoskey 0 Traverse City West improved to 9-0 in the Big North and 36-12 overall with a 25-14, 25-9, 25-7 win over Petoskey. The Titans were led by Marta Hunt (8 kills, 8 digs), Jenna VanZee (7 kills, 9 digs), Kelsey Sears (8 kills, 7 digs), Kalyn McPherson (30 assists, 8 digs), Jena Shaw (16 digs), Jordan Davenport (9 kills), Jessica Oakley (7 kills) and Tillie Redmond (8 digs). TC St. Francis JV 2 East Jordan JV 1 Kristen Marsh and Ashley Broering each had 4 kills and Carlee Novak was 19-for-23 serving with 4 aces to lead the Traverse City St. Francis junior varsity past the East Jordan JV squad 25-20, 12-25, 25-23. Marsh also had 3 digs and 2 aces for the Gladiators (29-7-6, 13-2-2 Lake Michigan).
