Bellaire, Glen Lake win LMC

Bellaire’s Tom Nichols takes his first slalom run during the Lake Michgan Ski Conference finals Wednesday afternoon at Crystal Mountain. Nichols swept the slalom and giant slalom to lead Bellaire to the league title.
THOMPSONVILLE - Bellaire won the fifth and final Lake Michigan Ski Conference meet Wednesday at Crystal Mountain to overtake Benzie Central for the boys championship.
The Eagles trailed Benzie entering the meet.
Glen Lake-Suttons Bay, which won the boys crown a year ago, captured the girls title.
Bellaire finished Wednesday's boys meet with 42 points. The Eagles were followed by Benzie (63), Manistee (89), Glen Lake-Suttons Bay (138) and Onekama (156).
Tom Nichols paced the Eagles, winning the slalom (49.27) and giant slalom (36.87). Bellaire placed four skiers in the top six in the slalom - Clark Fillmore was fourth (55.61) and Zac Muscleman and Frank King tied for fifth (58.26).
Kris Marin of Glen Lake-Suttons Bay was second (52.26). Benzie's Wiley Heller took third (52.83).
In the GS, Nichols was followed by Manistee's Conor Pelton (37.42) and Michael Bobian (37.70), Benzie's Eric Baumeler (37.78) and Fillmore (38.22).
In the girls race, Glen Lake-Suttons Bay finished with 33 points. Manistee (84), Onekama (101), Benzie (124) and Bellaire (137) trailed.
Glen Lake-Suttons Bay was led by Ali Drake and Sarah Wiesen. Drake won the GS (40.62) and was second in the slalom (57.55). Wiesen was third in each discipline (42.44 in GS and 59.33 in slalom). Teammate Molly Branson was fourth in slalom (63.45).
Manistee's Katie Bramble won slalom (56.24). Onekama's Danielle Olson was fifth (63.56).
Bellaire's Rachel Eklund ws second in GS (41.29) and teammate Emily Lowery fourth (42.59). Manistee's Nicole Granger took fifth.
BASKETBALL
McBain 73
Kingsley 64
McBain hit 9-of-10 free throws in the fourth quarter to square away a 73-64 win over Kingsley, including a 6-for-6 performance by Ryan Kamphouse.
Kamphouse scored six of his 10 points in the fourth, all of free throws. Austin Randle led the Ramblers with 23 points and Justin Sluiter added 15.
Joe Zenner's 22 paced Kingsley (11-3), while Caleb Nickerson contributed 16 points and 5 assists and Drew Wyse had 10 points and 5 assists. Kenny Sedlacek chipped in 5 assists and 4 steals.
Suttons Bay 55

Suttons Bay won its fourth game in a row with a 55-40 verdict over Leland.
The Norsemen (7-6) led 24-15 at half.
Cale Forton paced Suttons Bay with 14 points. Dan McKisson chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds, Ben Darling 7 points and 7 assists and Ray Freund 11 rebounds. Jordan Gibson scored 12 points and Tyler Kenney 9 for the Comets.

Kalkaska improved to 8-1 in the Lake Michigan Conference with a 25-18, 25-12, 25-17 win over Boyne City.
The Blazers were led by Chantelle Deater (10 kills, 6 blocks, 3 aces, 10 digs), Kaley Babcock (11 kills, 8 of 9 serving with 2 aces, 9 digs), Kaiti Jones (10 of 10 serving, 10 digs, 4 kills), Samantha Graham (12 of 12 serving, 8 kills, 3 blocks), Megan Dunn (8 assists, 6 digs), Danielle Luca (17 assists, 7 digs, 6 of 7 serving with 2 aces) and Brittany Baumchen (5 assists).

Pellston swept Gaylord St. Mary 25-11, 25-6, 25-18.
St. Mary was paced by Jaci Schmidlin (4 kills), Jessi Palmer (100 percent serving, assists) and Kristy Nasser (blacks).
WRESTLING
TC West drops
two matches
Traverse City West lost to Bay City Central 41-27 and Mount Pleasant 36-25 in a meet at Big Rapids.
Finishing 2-0 for the Titans were Corey Bidwell at 103, Trevor Gillison at 125 and Derek Kenney at 215.
