Titans capture Saginaw Heritage Quad
SAGINAW Traverse City West won the Saginaw Heritage Quad the team's seventh match in three days Wednesday.
West had 21 points, Saginaw Heritage 13, Flint Carman-Ainsworth 11 and Davison 4.
West had flight winners at No. 2 and No. 3 singles and No 1, No. 2 and No. 4 doubles. The Titans were second at No. 1 and No. 4 singles and No. 3 doubles.
At No. 1 singles, West's Emily Jones beat Davison 6-1, 6-4, lost to Carman-Ainsworth 4-6, 3-6; and beat Saginaw Heritage 6-3, 6-2.
At No. 2 singles, Ellen Ott beat Carman-Ainsworth 6-0, 6-2; Saginaw Heritage 6-0, 6-1; and Carman-Ainsworth 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 3 singles, Jordan Davenport topped Heritage 6-0, 6-1; Carman-Ainsworth 6-3, 6-4; and Davison 6-1, 6-1.
At No. 4 singles, Sarah Fox downed Davison 6-2, 6-2; lost to Carman-Ainsworth 1-6, 2-6; and beat Heritage 6-2, 7-5.
At No. 1 doubles, Hannah Bach and Dani Gourlay defeated Carman-Ainsworth 6-2, 6-4; Heritage 7-5, 6-2; Davison 6-1, 6-1.
At No. 2 doubles, Lisa Watson and Lydia Lovejoy upended Heritage 6-2, 6-1; Davison 6-0, 6-0; and Carman-Ainsworth 6-0, 6-0.
At No. 3 doubles, Haley Robinson and Kelley Robinson topped Davison 6-3, 6-2; lost to Heritage 3-6, 6-2, 2-6; and beat Carman-Ainsworth 6-1, 6-1.
At No. 4 doubles, Katie Madison and Shelby Crocker downed Carman-Ainsworth 6-0, 6-0; Heritage 6-3, 6-2; and Davison 6-1, 6-0.
Marquette 52
TC Central 42
Marquette made it 2-0 over area basketball teams with a come-from-behind 52-42 win at Traverse City Central on Wednesday.
Central (1-1) led 32-26 after three quarters, but Marquette scored 26 points in the fourth quarter to pull out the win.
Melissa LaPointe netted 16 points and Catherine Angeli 10 for Marquette.
Dori Lansbach tossed in 17 points and Lynden Baesch 8 for the Trojans. Lindsay Smith added 8 rebounds.
Marquette won the JV game 70-27. Jen Pomante's 10 points topped Central.
Grand Haven 50
TC West 29
Grand Haven used a 21-4 burst in the second quarter to beat Traverse City West 50-29 in a girl basketball opener for the Titans.
West committed 18 turnovers in the first half in falling behind 28-10.
Emma Veach scored 12 points to pace Grand Haven. Erica Olson, Mollie Montgomery and Jess Oakley all had 5 points for the Titans. Montgomery also had 4 assists and 7 rebounds.
Grand Haven won the JV game 46-33.
Kalkaska 68
Roscommon 42
Katie Krause and Caitlin Flohe combined for 47 points as Kalkaska improved to 2-0 with a 68-42 win over Roscommon.
Krause had 27 points, 10 rebounds, 7 steals and 3 blocks. Flohe contributed 20 points, and 6 steals. Lindsay McLean chipped in 9 points and 7 rebounds.
Rachel Peterson's 21 points paced Roscommon.

Elk Rapids 23
Ashley Slade scored 16 points and Brit Denter 15 as Kingsley evened its record at 1-1 with a 46-23 win over Elk Rapids.
Slade also had 9 rebounds and Tally Waurzyniak 13 steals in the win.
Kasey Anderson scored 13 for Elk Rapids.

Kayla Hines netted 13 points and Jessica Roberts 12 as East Jordan pulled away for a 47-28 win over Ellsworth.
Courtney Howes led Ellsworth with 13.
TC Christian 8
Buckley 1
Layton Boeve scored three first-half goals, two on headers, to spark Traverse City Christian past Buckley 8-1 in a Cherryland Conference soccer match.
Matt Beamer added a goal and four assists for the Sabres. Jason Send had two goals and an assist, Brian Wierenga a goal and an assist and Eric Hofstra a goal. Boeve also registered an assist.
Eric Pardini did not allow a goal in the net before he was replaced.
Grayling 5
Charlevoix 3
Tony Florival netted three goals as Grayling beat Charlevoix 5-3 in a Lake Michigan Conference contest.
Anders Larson and Adam Crittenden also tallied for the Vikings (2-2). Mat Mailloux, Colin Campbell and Weston Bryan scored for Charlevoix.
Chris Wells was in goal for Grayling.

Noah Hahn had a goal and an assist as Benzie Central edged Glen Lake 2-1.
Andrew Addis also scored for the Huskies. Steve Smendzuick was in goal for Benzie (1-1). He stopped a penalty shot in the first half.
Suttons Bay 9

Alex Dingrando scored four goals and Jesse Wright to power Suttons Bay to a 9-4 win over Manistee.
Pat Crego, Shane MacDonald and Jason McKisson also scored for the Norsemen (2-2).
Matt Ness and Mack Jones shared goaltending duties.

Four different Bellaire players scored in a 6-0 win over Houghton Lake.
Alex Scott and Anthony Garwood each had two goals, while Russell Rodriguez, and Spencer Neuman added one goal. Rodriguez had two assists and Garwood, Taylor Swartz and Scott one assist. Goalkeeper Brett Mosher needed only two saves to achieve a shutout.
Palmer 15th at Manton Invite
Suttons Bay's Drew Palmer finished 15th in 18:41 in the Manton Invitational.
Teammate Sam Faught was clocked in 22:46, racing in the boys 11th-12th grade division.
Rachael Farrell was 33rd in 28:15 in the girls' 11th-12th grade division.
In the girls' 9th-10th grade division, Elizabeth Adams placed 13th in 26:08 and Jordan Callewaert 34th in 32:57. Tom Pritz was 18th in the boys 9th-10th grade division in 21:41. Nathan Blue was 32nd in 26:15.
