Public meeting set on Mullett Lake trail

INDIAN RIVER — Members of the public may comment on what types of restrictions should be placed on snowmobile riders if a trail along the western shore of Mullett Lake is opened to motorized winter traffic this year.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources will hold a public meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Inland Lakes High School in Indian River to take public input.

Those comments will be discussed at the next Michigan Natural Resources Commission meeting on Aug. 10 in Manistique. DNR Director Rebecca Humphries will present commissioners with her proposed order to open the 12-mile stretch between Indian River and Cheboygan, but will not take action on the issue until September.
