Ballot language for May 2 recall election in village of Northport

Reasons for recall:

Continuing to support construction of the current version of the Northport Village-Leelanau Township sewer project when: 1) it is not and has never been supported by a majority of the people by any vote or referendum; 2) the financial impact and burden is so high compared to the potential benefits; 3) no direct study or sampling of existing individual wastewater treatment systems to prove need and necessity have ever been conducted while claiming the sewer should be built to address environmental needs; and 4) any benefits from the project will be grossly disproportionate to the costs, including contemplated forced destruction of well-performing septic systems and holding tanks.

Justification of conduct in office:

We of the Northport Village Council believe that we are acting responsibly in regard to the proposed sewer system and with the best interest of the community in mind. The council is charged with considering the future viability of the village. We believe that the proposed sewer system, after three years of consideration, debate and revision is in the best interest of the village.
