Nonprofits share $74,480 in grants

PETOSKEY — Almost two dozen regional nonprofit and service organizations will share $74,480 in grants from the Great Lakes Energy People Fund.

The grants include $10,000 for the Boyne City Rotary Club toward construction of a pavilion at Rotary Park, and a similar donation at Clearwater Township toward construction of a pavilion at the athletic field in Rapid City. The Charlevoix County park system will receive $5,000 for improvements at Thumb Lake Park, and $6,000 is going to roof repairs at Crossroads Ecumenical Re-sale Shop in East Jordan.

The People Fund is paid for by utility customers who round up their monthly electric bills to the next dollar. Great Lakes Energy cooperative covers 26 counties in west Michigan.
