04/13/2006Prep RoundupEast Jordan sweeps aside BellaireTC Central takes two victories from Elk RapidsEAST JORDAN Any season has to start somewhere and East Jordan's baseball campaign started with a bang. The Red Devils opened with a sweep of Bellaire, 10-4 and 9-1. East Jordan broke the first game open with a five-run fourth inning, highlighted by Josh Cooper's grand slam. Dallas Dougherty was the winning pitcher for East Jordan, striking out six and allowing four hits over the first five innings. Tom Pentecost retired three straight batters in the sixth inning to seal the victory. Dougherty helped his own cause with two hits, including a double, and three RBIs. Cooper added two hits. In the nightcap, East Jordan broke the game open late with an eight-run fifth inning. Dougherty, Cooper and Alex Bajko each had two hits and two RBIs for the Red Devils. Both of Cooper's hits were doubles. Andrew Streufert was the wining pitcher. He allowed one hit and struck out nine. MORE BASEBALL TC Central 11 8 Winning pitcher Vince Khoury helped his own cause with a three-run homer as TC Central topped Elk Rapids 8-6. Khoury went six innings on the mound, striking out seven. Robbie Harman had two hits and added three runs. Harman had three hits and scored four times as TC Central (6-2) won the opener 11-2. Kevin Krantz went the first five innings on the mound for the win, striking out four and not allowing an earned run. Jordan Hall struck out two in the final two innings. Bill Lazar and Matt Ohlert had two hits for the Trojans, who play at Bay City Western on Saturday. The Central JV will also make the trip for the non-conference doubleheaders. TC Central JV 12 6 Adam Doe had a two-run double while Josh Pilarski and Paul Hood had two hits and drove in one run as the TC Central JV completed a sweep of Elk Rapids with a 6-2 triumph. Kyle Griffin was the winning pitcher for Central (4-0). Jeff Stych struck out six and had two hits and a RBI as Central won the opener 12-2 in five innings. Griffin had a three-run double while Drew Weinbrecht had three hits and scored twice. Derek Diekman (two-run double) and Shane Darrow added two hits for the Trojans. RUGBY TC Alliance 41 Elliott Gallagher had four tries and Daisy Dalzell three conversions as the TC Alliance opened its fifth season with a 41-0 rout of Grandville. The team draws students from TC Central, TC West, TC St. Francis, TC Christian, Suttons Bay, Glen Lake and Lake Leelanau St. Mary's. Corey Parshall, Matthew Benson and Dane Moeggenberg. The Alliance won the B game 14-5 as Dalzell and Parshall had tries. Dalzell had both conversions.
