Hearing delayed for firefighter charged in deaths

FROM STAFF REPORTS

TRAVERSE CITY - A preliminary hearing for a Grand Traverse Metro fire truck driver charged in the deaths of a woman and her infant son will continue at a later date.
Antrim County prosecutor Charles Koop, the special prosecutor who authorized negligent homicide charges against Cory Carlton, said he didn't finish with all of his witnesses at Monday's preliminary hearing.
The hearing will continue, but 86th District Court officials were unsure when. Roger Wotila, Carlton's attorney, said he and Koop will contact the court to find a "convenient date," likely not for "at least a couple of weeks."
Carlton allegedly sped through a stoplight at the intersection of Zimmerman and Silver Lake roads in March while responding to a fire call. The truck struck a car driven by Matthew Garrisi. Garrisi's wife, Rebecca, 28, and their 11-month-old son, Jesse, died as a result of injuries.
