October 11, 2005Web site ranks Glass No. 6 nationallyByRecord-Eagle staff writer ![]() When prepvolleyball.com unveiled its list of Senior Aces for 2006, Leland coach Laurie Glass made a friendly wager with her daughter, Alisha. The coach thought 6-foot Alisha Glass would be somewhere in the top 10 of the top volleyball recruits in the Class of 2006. The daughter, who will play at Penn State University next year, thought that was too high an estimation. "I didn't make the top 18 (players) for the Youth National Team," Alisha Glass said. "I thought that would be a good judge of where I was, so I guessed I'd be somewhere from 20 to 10." Prepvolleyball.com listed Alisha Glass as the sixth-best senior in the country based on potential achievement at the next level, meaning the daughter has to make dinner for her mother/coach. "It's very nice," said Alisha Glass, who will sign a letter of intent with Penn State early next month. "A lot of times this stuff is pretty political. It's also tough by location. "They pick the national player of the year before our season is even over. Michigan just doesn't get noticed a lot playing in the winter, which isn't a bad thing. It's nice to know someone was paying attention." Even though she hasn't played her senior season, Glass is already the national leader in career kills (2,686), career service aces (685) and aces in a season (296), which she established as a junior. The national record for kills was 2,638. Glass is more than 100 beyond the career record for aces while her season total is 79 better. The Web site revealed its top 100 seniors 10 at a time, starting at the bottom. "Every 10 that went by shoved her further down in the mix," Laurie Glass said. "When they came out with 20-11, I was like, 'I'll have chicken.' She makes a pretty good chicken dish." Alisha can also dish it out on the volleyball court.
