October 1, 2005Weir off-limits to tribal membersFROM STAFF REPORTSMANISTEE - The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians issued a resolution barring fishing by tribal members from the Little Manistee River weir through Nov. 15. The ban arose from an agreement between the tribe's Natural Resources Commission and state officials, according to a press release from the tribe. The ban applies to 300 feet of the river leading to the weir, which is an area off-limits to non-tribal anglers during salmon spawning season, said Natural Resource Commission member Virgil Johnson.
