Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2005, at 3 p.m., at Pleasanton Township Cemetery in Bear Lake, with the Rev. Russell Garrigus officiating. The family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Edwards-Oak Funeral Home in Bear Lake. JEANETTE B. MILLER, 74, of East Jordan, died Sunday, May 22, 2005, at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. The family will receive friends today, May 25, 2005, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2005 at 11 a.m., at the First Baptist Church in Charlevoix. JUDITH ANN PERSKI, 64, of Eastlake, died Monday evening, May 23, 2005, at her home. No services are planned. Cremation has taken place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee. The family is being served by the Oak Grove Cremation Center. JAMES PHELPS, 61, of Grayling, died Monday, May 23, 2005, in Traverse City. Visitation has taken place. Funeral services will be held today, May 25, 2005, at 11 a.m., at the Sorenson Lockwood Funeral Home in Grayling. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Grayling. Arrangements are by the Sorenson Lockwood Funeral Home in Grayling. CYMBRIA "SAM" SCHOEN, 65, of Grayling, died Sunday, May 22, 2005. A memorial service will be held Thursday June 2, 2005, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grayling. Arrangements are by the Sorenson Lockwood Funeral Home in Grayling. Raymond Victor Bodinus Died May 22, 2005 TRAVERSE CITY - Raymond Victor Bodinus, 96, a retired accountant of Traverse City, formerly of Farmington, died Sunday afternoon, May 22, 2005, at the Highlander. Born on Dec. 4, 1908, in Detroit, he was the son of Henry C. and Hannah (Weitschat) Bodinus. Raymond is survived by his wife of 71 years, Hester; a son, Timothy Bodinus of Fort Worth, Texas; and two granddaughters, Gretchen Lavedas of Warren, and Laurel Bodinus-Rumanuk of San Antonio, Texas. Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time. Arrangements were made with the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City. Elizabeth Louise "Betty" Casier Died May 22, 2005 TRAVERSE CITY - Elizabeth Louise Casier, 72, of Traverse City, died Sunday, May 22, 2005, at Munson Medical Center. She was born Sept. 1, 1932, to Stephen and Susanne (Depka) Panek. Throughout Betty's high school years she favored Bill Casier, who escorted her to all four high school proms; and they married on Oct. 20, 1951, at Immaculate Conception Church. Together they raised a family in the Central neighborhood, where Betty was a loved and respected friend and neighbor who looked out for the children of all families. They enjoyed spending summer vacations with their children at the family farm in Suttons Bay, playing euchre and baseball, and taking trailer rides behind the tractor. The family also built a cottage on Lake Leelanau, where they enjoyed spending summers as well. Betty and Bill owned and operated Club 31 near Chums Corners from 1963 until 1968. It was a family affair. In 1985 Betty and Bill purchased Shady Shores Resort on Glen Lake, a popular Leelanau County vacation spot which they owned and operated until 1998. A member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Betty loved spending time with her family, and cooking and baking. She loved flowers and enjoyed gardening. She especially liked going out to lunch with friends. Betty was also an inspiration to her family and friends in her courageous battle with multiple sclerosis in the later years of her life. She still put the concerns of others first despite her own physical challenges. Surviving are her loving husband of 53 years, Bill; five children, daughter, Debbie (Guy Sauer) Purkiss of Benzonia; daughter, Rhonda (Bill Bartholomew) Casier of Cadillac; son, Bill Casier of Empire; daughter, Libby Casier of Grand Rapids; and son, Tom Casier of Traverse City; five grandchildren, Elissa Bomer, and Michelle, Julie, Michael and Katie Purkiss; one sister, Violet Felker of Traverse City; and her special canine friend, Riley. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jean Durocher. Visitation will be held today, May 25, 2005, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Covell Funeral Home, where a rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Pete Eke Thursday, May 26, 2005, at 11 a.m., at St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. The family asks those wishing to give memorials to please remember the Carmelite Monastery or the Senior Companion Program. William George Died May 22, 2005 BOYNE CITY - William George, 84, of Boyne City, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2005, at home surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born Aug. 13, 1920, the son of Hub and Agnes (Murray) George in Detroit. In 1946 he married Jean Leslie in Detroit. Bill served his country honorably as a first lieutenant during World War II in the United States Army. He attended college at the University of Michigan. He later worked for E.F. Mac Donald Company for many years before he retired as vice president, senior account executive. Bill's job took him and his wife all over the world. Throughout all of his extensive travels, when asked the most beautiful place in the world, he would always say that northern Michigan was the most beautiful. His greatest joy and happiness came from spending time with his loving wife of 59 years, Jean; his two daughters, Linda (Chuck) Michaels of Traverse City and Susan (Jim) Douglas of Boyne City; grandchildren, Matthew (Cori), Travis (Dawn), Amanda, Andrew and Brian; two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Jonathan; and several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Hub and Agnes; and his brother, Robert George. A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, May 26, 2005, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, May 27, 2005, at noon, also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Boyne City Elementary Library. Michael M. "Mike" Knapik Died May 20, 2005 BENZONIA - Mike Knapik, 85, died Friday, May 20, 2005, at his home. He was born Aug. 13, 1919, in Chicago, the son of Jacob and Anna (Janos) Knapik. Mike married Josephine on April 19, 1946; and she preceded him in death Nov. 22, 2000. He served in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the Middle Eastern Theatre. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, the V.F.W and the P.R.A. In 1981, Mike retired from Jenks Machine Shop. He was an avid fisherman and loved to grow a garden and raise honey bees. Surviving are special friends, David and Gert Lorenc and family; his favorite nephew, Richard (Lorraine) Knapik of Alabama; two brothers; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial Mass will be celebrated today, May 25, 2005, at 11 a.m., at St. Ann Catholic Church, with Father Ray Cotter officiating. Interment will be in the Benzonia Township Cemetery. Memorials contributions may be directed to the Michigan Heart Association. The Benzonia Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes and Cremation Service is handling the arrangements. Wayne Charles Ostrander Died May 23, 2005 AUSTIN, Texas - Wayne Charles Ostrander, 69, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 23, 2005. He was born Feb. 5, 1936, in Saginaw, to Norman and Eileen Ostrander. He married Maureen Erway on April 27, 1957; and they had five children. Wayne was employed by Michigan and Southwestern Bell for 36 years, retiring in 1991. He loved making memories, spending summers with his family and friends in Michigan; and he enjoyed the water, especially Lake Travis and the Great Lakes. As a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, he has left a spiritual legacy. Those who join to celebrate his life are his wife of 48 years, Maureen; and their children, son, Dan, and his wife, Louise; son, Brian, and his wife, Christie; son, Brady; daughter, Corinne Bonneau, and her husband, Bill; daughter, Holly Migl, and her husband, Jay; 12 grandchildren, Bodie, Jason, Jenna, Brianna, Hannah, Katie, Jaymie, Haley, Matthew, Joshua, Kylie and Hunter; mother, Eileen; brothers, Dale, Keith and Lee; mother-in-law, Rhea Erway; and the very special family of Ted Davis. Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Norman Ostrander; and his brother, Jay. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 26, at 1 p.m., at the Church of the Hills, 3502 Hatch Road, Cedar Park, TX.
