March 12, 2005Fire truck inquiry to wrap up next weekFROM STAFF REPORTSTRAVERSE CITY - Sheriff’s officers are continuing their investigation into a fatal crash involving a Grand Traverse County fire truck and expect to complete the probe early next week. Capt. Tom Emerson said he and three accident reconstruction specialists will work through the weekend. The crash occurred Tuesday afternoon at the Zimmerman and Silver Lake road intersec-tion in Garfield Township. "There’s a lot of technical stuff we’ve got to do," Emerson said. A Grand Traverse County metro fire truck driven by 26-year-old Cory Carlton went through a red light at the intersection while responding to a fire call, authorities said. Carlton did not appear to slow for the intersection to check for oncoming traffic as required, authorities said. The truck slammed into a sports utility vehicle driven by Matthew Garrisi, whose wife Rebecca and 11-month-old son Jesse were killed in the collision.
