January 19, 2005Traverse City man suspended from UHL for assaulting refereeFROM STAFF REPORTS![]() Mike Wolf, of Traverse City, received a 25-game suspension for punching referee Steve Marofsky after a scrum with an opposing player. Wolf, a 6-foot-5, 275-pound right wing who had 46 penalty minutes in 17 games last year with the Generals, also had spent time with the Central League's Memphis Riverkings and Oklahoma City Blazers (1999-2000). He had 49 penalty minutes through 10 games this season, with no goals or assists. Generals' defenseman Kam White, of Chicago, received a six-game suspension after being assessed a game misconduct for category three physical abuse of officials. "It (Wolf's punch) was a direct punch to the chest of the official," said UHL director of hockey operations Brad Jones in a statement Tuesday. "We're sending a message that we're not going to tolerate that." Wolf will not be allowed to play again until March 6 versus Motor City. As of Tuesday afternoon, no charges against Wolf had been filed at the 72nd District Court in Port Huron. "These types of actions will not be tolerated," said Brad Jones, Vice President of Hockey Operations of the UHL in a statement on the league's Web site. "With the issuance of such suspensions, the league sends a clear message to those in the industry, our commitment to hinder such occurrences." In announcing the actions, commissioner Richard Brosal made the following statement: "The disregard for the safety of players and officials is unacceptable. I fully support Brad Jones' decisions and hope that the disciplinary actions of the league will help to curb these incidences from occurring in the future."
