February 8, 2005Man, 29, charged in child porn caseFROM STAFF REPORTSBEAR LAKE - A 29-year-old Bear Lake man was arraigned on four felony charges stemming from child pornography allegations. Justin M. Shirley, of Big Four Road, was arraigned Monday on three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a child under 13 and one count of child sexually abusive activity. All four charges are felonies. Michigan State Police from the Manistee post were alerted about 3 p.m. Friday that Shirley had dropped off several rolls of film for development at a local processing facility and the film contained photos of child pornography. A trooper was waiting in the store when Shirley returned for the photos, and police also obtained a search warrant for his car and home. That search led to the confiscation of more than 1,000 items. Shirley remains lodged in the Manistee County Jail on $500,000 cash bond. A preliminary examination has not yet been scheduled.
