Snowshoe hikes at Sleeping Bear

EMPIRE - Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore will host a series of upcoming snowshoe hikes in the park.
Holiday hikes will begin at the visitor's center on M-72 near Empire at 1 p.m. Dec. 27 and Dec. 30.
For the rest of the winter, snowshoe hikes will be offered every Saturday and Sunday in January and February beginning Jan. 7, meeting at the same time and place.
Park rangers first will provide basic snowshoeing instructions inside the visitor's center, and participants will travel by car to a specific trailhead before embarking on the 1.5-mile, ranger-led path. Hikers should plan to be outside until about 3 p.m.
The park will provide a limited supply of snowshoes at no charge. Participants need to pay the park entrance fee and should call (231) 326-5134, ext. 328 to make reservations.
