December 2, 2005Northport resident files recall petitionsNORTHPORT - An outspoken opponent of a proposed Northport sewer project filed petitions seeking recall of seven village council members.Northport resident John Kutilek filed petitions last week against village president Michael Rogers Sr. and trustees William Brendel, Richard Burmeister, Steven Mattson, Fredrick Thomas, Stephen Wetherbee and Barbara VonVoigtlander. All seven petitions list identical reasons involving the proposed municipal sewer, including failure to bring the matter to a public vote and lack of direct testing to prove environmental need. The county election commission must approve the recall petitions' wording for clarity during a hearing Tuesday before circulators can gather signatures. See Related Stories:
