Fire hits Mackinaw City museum and pizza parlor

FROM STAFF REPORTS

MACKINAW CITY - Possibly one of the largest collections of Mackinac Bridge memorabilia in the nation was lost in a fire that gutted Mama Mia's Pizzeria and the private Mackinac Bridge Museum.
"Anything about that bridge they had it and they pretty much lost it all," said Mackinaw City Fire Chief Fred Thompson.
Smoke was discovered coming from a storage area of the upstairs museum area by one of the owners just before 10 a.m. Sunday.
Seven area departments and almost 100 firefighters worked until 2 p.m. to bring the blaze on Mackinaw City's main downtown street under control.
