April 13, 2005State A.G. to review fire truck collisionFROM STAFF REPORTSTRAVERSE CITY - The deaths of two people killed by a Grand Traverse County fire truck as it barreled through an intersection will be reviewed by the Michigan Attorney General. Grand Traverse County Prosecutor Alan Schneider asked the attorney general to review the case because he may have a conflict of interest, he said in a statement. Schneider has said the conflict stems from the possibility the county could be sued over the accident. Rebecca Garrisi, 28, and her 11-month-old son, Jesse, were killed. Matthew Garrisi said he never heard emergency sirens before the fire truck smashed into his vehicle. The crash happened March 8 as a metro fire truck driven by part-time firefighter Cory Carlton went through a red light at Zimmerman and Silver Lake roads. Grand Traverse sheriff's investigators said Carlton did not appear to slow at the intersection to check for oncoming traffic. Schneider asked Attorney General Mike Cox's office Tuesday to determine whether a special prosecutor should be appointed to file charges.
