Obituaries

TRAVERSE CITY - Cora V. Herheim, 86, of Traverse City, died on Monday, May 17, 2004, at her home. She was born in Midland, on Dec. 11, 1917, the daughter of Edward and Verta (Guernsey) Smith. On Aug. 14, 1965, in Oil City, she married Lars Herheim, her husband of 31 years, who preceded her in death in 1996.
Mrs. Herheim was a retired teacher, having taught in both downstate and Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools. Because of her love of children and her passion for reading, she worked to ensure that those children who lagged behind in reading were given extra help to bring their reading ability to the highest level possible while in her class. She knew that a solid foundation in reading would grant them a lifetime of treasures.
Cora loved and enjoyed her family. She loved to play games and loved to take a quiet Sunday drive. She was an avid reader of both fiction and nonfiction. She particularly loved to debate issues - any issue. It didn't matter what she was debating or which side she took. What mattered was her enjoyment of the debate, which eventually ended in laughter.
She was a happy person, who loved her life, her children, and her husband. But, most of all she loved her Savior. She ensured that everyone she spoke with understood her love of Jesus and wished everyone she met would follow Him.
Cora is survived by her children, Laurie Herheim and Scott Herheim, both of Traverse City; her brother, Glenn Smith of Mesa, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews.
