      RAYMOND HENRY ALTEN, 91, of Manistee, died Saturday, May 1, 2004, at his home.
      Cremation has taken place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee.
      The family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Oak Grove Cremation Center.
     
      CLARENCE 'MICKEY' FAUSZ, 81, of Manistee, died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at his home.
      Visitation will take place Monday, May 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee.
      Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Manistee. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Manistee.
     
      HELEN BELLE PADDOCK, 82, of Traverse City, died Friday, May 7, 2004, at home.
      Visitation will take place Sunday, May 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
      Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 10, at the funeral home.
      A full obituary will appear in Sunday's edition of the Traverse City Record-Eagle.
     
      MARY GLORIA STEINER, 83, of Bay City, formerly of Alden, died Friday, May 7, 2004, at Bay Regional Medical Center in Bay City.
      Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, May 10, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Essexville. Visitation will take place from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, at the Helena Township Cemetery.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - James Douglas Daniel, 37, of Traverse City, died Thursday, May 6, 2004.
      He was born in Livonia on April 25, 1967, the son of James Ray and Janice Kay (Taylor) Daniel.
      James worked at the Park Place Hotel as an attendant in the Health Club. He then went to work as a greeter for Wal-Mart. James enjoyed talking to everyone and loved being social.
      James graduated from Chelsea High School in 1988. He loved the north, and moved to Traverse City. He was active in environmental and recycling issues, and was also involved with several committees for citizens with special needs within our community.
      James loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending all his time with them; he especially liked playing cards and board games. He was a great fan of U of M sporting events. When it came to music, James favored pop and country.
      He is survived by his parents, Jan (Bob) Carroll of Bloomfield Hills and Jim (Jane) Daniel of Heartland; brother, Dough Daniel of Farmington Hills; brother, Bob (Cheryl) Carroll of Grosse Point Park; sister, Dr. Janell (Greg) Henke of Avon, Conn.; sister, Patti (Jeff) Sylvia of Bloomfield Hills; brother, Mike Carroll of Royal Oak; sister, Wendy Haas of Northville; and sister, Missy (Kevin) Dunbar of Northville; grandparents, Carl and Laura Taylor; grandmother, Para Daniel; and 10 nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Alvin Daniel; grandparents, Fred and Jennie Watson, and Bert and Ruth Carroll.
      Visitation will take place today, May 8, from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City. Additional visitation will take place Monday, May 10, from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Casterline Funeral Home in Northville.
      A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, at the Casterline Funeral Home in Northville, where the family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Rural Hill Cemetery, Northville.

      MARION - Iva E. Hull of Holt, formerly of Traverse City, died May 6, 2004, at Ingham Medical Center of Lansing. She was 86 years old.
      She is survived by her children, James (Jackie) Hull of Wyoming, Mich., Margaret (Dan) Weaver of Six Lakes, Don (Lydia) Hull of Bakersfield, Calif., and Randy Hull of Florida; siblings, Walt (Lillian) Pifer of Eaton Rapids, Blanche (Maurice) Mapes of Evart, Max (Norma) Pifer of McBain, and Rose (Bill) Kunkel of Freesoil; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, William; her parents; and sister, Jane Delcamp.
      Services for Mrs. Hull will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 8, with visitation from 11 a.m. to time of service at Fosnaught-Holdship Funeral Home in Marion. Pastor Jeff Schrock will be officiating.

      TRAVERSE CITY - Anna F. Snyder, 84, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 6, 2004, at Munson Medical Center.
      Born in Traverse City on Oct. 29, 1919, Anna was the daughter of Elizabeth (Katrovech) and Peter Winowiecki. On June 26, 1939, she married Matthew Snyder.
      Anna was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Parish. She had been employed by Cherry Growers in quality control prior to her retirement in 1983. She enjoyed gardening and fishing and being in the out-of-doors, especially the times hunting with her husband. She also enjoyed snowmobiling.
      Survivors include her children, George (Geneva) Snyder of Cedar, Gloria (Al) Compton of Cedar, Duane (Marcia) Snyder of Traverse City and Jerome (Sherry) Snyder of Lake Ann; and 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Anna was from a large family who also survive her, including brothers and sisters, Frank (Bernice) Winowiecki, Agnes (Clem) Mikowski, Marie (Paul) Meewenberg, Peter Winowiecki, Al (Shirley) Winowiecki and Dolores (Bob) Kromberg.
      Anna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Matthew; one son; her brother, Victor (Adelene) Winowiecki; and a sister, Patty Winowiecki.
      Visitation will take place Sunday, May 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with the rosary being prayed at 7:30 p.m.
      The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, May 10, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Fr. Michael Janowski will serve as celebrant. Burial will take place in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
      Memorial contributions in Anna's name may be directed to Mass Intentions or to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Jack Tankersley, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, died peacefully Wednesday morning at home surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.
      Jack was a colorful native Texan known for his humor, wit and unending dedication to family. He was an avid sports fan, especially faithful to the St. Francis Gladiators during his grandsons' years there playing football, basketball and baseball. He was also known to frequent auditoriums featuring drama and music performed by his granddaughters, and anxiously awaited reports and pictures from the Texas granddaughters' soccer and gymnastics activities.
      Jack was born Aug. 26, 1928, in Brownfield, Texas, as the seventh of nine children to Elva "Red" and Myrtle Rodgers Tankersley, who proceeded him in death.
      Jack graduated from Brownfield High School in 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, becoming a Physical Training Instructor stationed at Fort Bragg, N. C., and later Fort Hood, Texas. In 1952 he was employed by Shell Oil Company in Denver City, Texas, later transferring to Ozona, Texas, and Traverse City, where he retired in 1986.
      Jack was married for 55 years to Cynthia Black Tankersley, who survives. He is also survived by daughters, Cynthia Suzanne "Suzy" (Jeff) Alpers of Traverse City, Jacquie Rene (Emerson) Dickey of Traverse City and Lenoir, N.C.; and son, James Milton (Courtney) Tankersley of Lake Dallas, Texas. Also surviving are grandsons, Brian (Bridgett) Beckwith and Benjamin Beckwith, granddaughters, Meagan Thomas and Micha Thomas, all of Traverse City, and granddaughters, Evyan Tankersley and Avery Tankersley of Lake Dallas.
      He enjoyed the special treat of great-grandchildren Isabelle and Jack Beckwith of Traverse City. Also surviving are siblings Sammie (Ralph) Dildine of Andrews, Texas, and Bill Tankersley of Brownfield, Texas; and special childhood friends and cousin, Mary and George Chisholm of Traverse City.
      He was preceded in death by mother-in-law, Irene "Mammy" Wright; brothers, Bert, Guy and Giggs Tankersley; sisters, Darlene Turner, Juanita Newsom and Dixie Burch.
      Services will be held at 1 p.m. today, May 8, at Central United Methodist Church. The Rev. Tamara Williams will officiate.
      Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice or to Central United Methodist Church.
      The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City is serving the family.
