Petoskey, Cadillac post basketball wins

FROM STAFF REPORTS

It was a good start and a strong finish for Cadillac against TC Central.
Petoskey was dominant throughout against TC West.
While the Vikings defeated the Trojans, 66-56, the Northmen maintained their perfect mark with a 74-26 romp over the Titans.
Petoskey (5-0, 3-0 Big North Conference) jumped out to a 25-8 first-quarter lead and increased the margin to 47-16 at halftime and 66-23 after three periods.
"We got out of the gate quickly and played our best basketball of the year," said Northmen coach Dennis Starkey. "We seemed to hit every basket."
"They're good," West coach Greg Farmer said. "They're very smart, they took good shots and they took advantage of every opportunity.
"They pressed us, and even when we broke it we turned the ball over. We just couldn't handle the pace."
Petoskey's Damon Huffman poured in 33 points before sitting out the final quarter and a half. He had 27 points at halftime.
Anthony Wilhelm added 11 points for the Northmen.
West (1-6, 0-3) received eight points from Adam Inman and seven from Andrew Tollzien.
Petoskey also won the JV game, 55-47, as Corbin Donaldson netted 18 points. Kyle Centilli's 16 led West.
Cadillac jumped out to an 18-6 first quarter lead against TC Central. The Trojans (3-3, 2-1) trimmed the deficit to 32-25 at halftime and took a 40-39 lead into the final quarter.
But the Vikings (3-2, 2-1) would not be denied.
"We battled hard,"TCCentral coach JonConstant said. "The tale of the game was the shots we didn't get because of our turnovers. I'm proud of our effort, we just have to work on our execution."
Kyle Maury paced Cadillac with 20 points while Matt McDonald, who went 11 for 16 from the free-throw line, added 19. Ryan Selleck chipped in with 14 points.
Michael Runstrom and Greg Pinto each had 13 points for TCCentral. Pinto hit four 3-pointers in the second half.
