July 2003: John and Leslye Wuerfel announce plans to purchase land on the corner of M-72 and Bugai Road, build a 4,500-seat stadium and bring a minor league baseball team to Traverse City at their own expense, estimated at $6 million. The Wuerfels hope to begin play in the independent Frontier League in May, 2005.
